Asana
In Sanskrit Asana (आसन) means "seat". Traditionally this would refer to to a seated posture used for meditation.
These days the word Asana is used to encompass a whole range of physical movements, or postures, which can be used to prepare the body for meditation, or as stand alone practices in their own right. It's likely what many people think of when we use the word yoga.
Asana practice promotes strength and flexibility in the joints and muscles, which helps with balancing the body and it energy systems. It can also as used as means of connecting to the self in the present moment.
Classes will always include at least 55 minutes of Asana practice, and will be tailored to suit the physical requirements of the students present. With that in mind, students will always be encouraged to take ownership of their own needs, having a regular yoga practice makes this process of listening to, and really understanding, your body easier and easier.
